my baby eats real food

last week, one week and one day before her six month birthday, we gave georgia her first taste of solid food!  it was so fun.  i had planned on waiting until her 6 month birthday to make the leap, since she is solely breastfed right now, but her sleeping situation has been less than adequate so i went ahead and started some solids in hopes it would help in the sleeping department (which i think it has!).  g's first meal consisted of sweet potatoes.  yummy.  she looooved em.  i decided to skip rice cereal and oatmeal all together for now and am planning to introduce that when she's a little older - maybe 7-8 months.  a lot of my friends and family have had issues with their babies getting a bit "stopped up" once they started on the grains so i'm hoping to wait until her digestive system is a bit more "ready."  so sweet potatoes it was.  and i'm making all of my baby food right now (but will have to research some different brands for when we are out and about - mamas, any suggestions?), and let me tell you it's kind of addicting.  i have to be careful or we will have enough baby food to feed a small army.  it's so so fun!

we are starting on 2 meals a day - 1 an hour after her first bottle (around 8 am) and 1 an hour before (around 6 pm) bedtime.  i'm hoping to move her to three solids a day by the time she is 7ish months old (with bottles all in between).

since we've taken the plunge, G has tried sweet potatoes, avocados (took her awhile to warm up to these) and squash.  i'm thinking of trying a ripe banana later this week!  if any of you mamas have any other suggestions for first foods to try let me know!  for now here are some pictures of her first encounter with food.  they make me laugh because she looks so tired in some.  being a baby is hard work, ya know?!

Yayy!!!! She did awesome :) We started with Marli a couple weeks before she was 6 months and I can't tell you how oh so happy she was to begin eating solids. She would literally salivate when we'd eat lunch or dinner so that's when I knew it was time to offer her real food. Now that she's 10 months, we just introduced super small bites of rice, chicken, etc. and she LOVES it! Make sure you get your video ready to capture these moments. Their reactions to new things is pretty funny.

Applesauce was another hit with T and it's super easy to make. Peas and carrots were her favorite veggies. Again, both super easy. Do you have the silicone containers you can freeze? They worked perfectly; you just pop one out at meal time, warm it up and serve! We got our's from PBK, and I loved them. I have a feeling she will definitely start sleeping better... and we skipped the rice cereal all together too, she was not a fan! I think it's overrated anyway. The fun is beginning now! :o)

SO FUN! Ah food is really quite an adventure with babies. Scarlett's first was sweet potatoes, too :) We did oatmeal first, and never had any issues. The only thing I suggest is introducing the veggies first. I did sweet stuff with Scarlett and it took her forever to like greens. I still have to mix them usually. And baby food making is so fun, too! I'm about to make a new batch for Scarlett tonight :) Yay, Gigi!

For on the go food we loved Happy Baby and Plum Organics pouches. They have stages, (first foods, etc) and have no additives! The later stage Happy Baby ones even have chia seed (salba) in them! We get ours at target and they usually have a Cartwheel deal for then.

Love your blog! My LO will start solids soon and I plan on making all of his baby food also! We travel a lot so my mom got us the Infantino Squeeze Station set. I can make/store Wyatt's food in pouches that are easy to grab and feed with on the go. If you haven't seen it yet, you should check it out :)
