I don't want to miss what matters
I wanna be reaching out
Show me the greater purpose
So I can start living right now
-Matthew West

Hey 2013, I like you already.
Sure you started off kinda slow because well – hubby’s been sick and now I fear I may be as well.  But, I’ve got some exciting things planned for you.  Things I’ve dreamed about for a long time.  Things I can’t wait to share on this here blog of mine very soon.  But first, 2013, we need to talk.  I’ve got some goals too.   See, life changed me in 2012.  Changed my heart in a big way.  Lot’s of stuff happened that contributed to this change, some good and some hard.  But the change itself – that was good.  God’s smart like that.  So if any of you reading this look back on 2012 and feel hurt, pain or sorrow – take heart and have hope – because it will be used to change your heart.  In a good way I believe – if you trust God.  And He is only preparing you for better things to come.

But back to my plans.  I’ll be talking about some goals I’ve made over the next few days but a lot of that starts with the simple quote above.  It comes from one of my favorite songs by Matthew West.  And it speaks what my heart is shouting this year.  I don’t want to miss what matters this year.  I don’t want to be caught up in what the world thinks I should be doing or not doing.  Instead I want to be reaching out.  Helping others find their way.  Showing them love and compassion.

One of my goals for 2013 is to get better in the kitchen.  It’s been my goal for a while now but I have more reason this year than ever to make that happen.  And one of the things I hope to do with my newly acquired (or not so acquired) cooking skills is share.  Share the gift of food.  Bake dinner for a random neighbor and surprise them.  Share my blueberry muffins with Matt’s pharmacy staff at work. Just give love away.  Because that is what we are called to do.  And that is what my blueberry muffins are.  An offering of love.  Unrequited, undeserved love.  Expecting nothing in return.  Enough of this, “what’s in it for me?” motto.  It’s not about you, or me, it’s about Him and showing others His love.  And I’ve slowly come to realize that what may seem so small and insignificant in my mind, may be huge in the minds of others.  So 2013, I hope you’ll change my heart too.  I hope you’ll be a year of giving back and giving away.  Of opening my home and opening my heart.  Because I really don’t want to miss what matters.  Not this year.

Happy 2013 sweet friends!  I’ll be posting more about my goals/news/challenges for 2013 over the next few weeks, but I’d love to hear what y’all are thinking!  What are some of your goals this year?  What do you want to accomplish?  Leave it in the comment section and inspire me and others!  xox

Happy New Year! Sounds like you're really got your thoughts organized to start 2013! and I agree- one of the most important things is to be present and not miss a moment because we'll miss those moments when they are gone!

can't wait to read more about your goals!

Happy New Year! This year, I'd like to say YES a lot more. Do things I wouldn't normally do. Get outside my comfort zone.

I'd also like to take on the Happiness Project in my own way. Set monthly goals that hopefully will stick.
